The weak conjecture on spherical classes

Let be the mod 2 Steenrod algebra. We construct a chain-level representation of the dual of Singer's algebraic transfer, which maps Singer's invariant-theoretic model of the dual of the Lambda algebra, , to and is the inclusion of the Dickson algebra, , into . This chain-level representation allows us to confirm the weak conjecture on spherical classes (see [9]), assuming the truth of (1) either the conjecture that the Dickson invariants of at least k = 3 variables are homologically zero in }, (2) or a conjecture on ${\mathcal{A}}$ -decomposability of the Dickson algebra in $\Gamma_k^{\wedge}$. We prove the conjecture in item (1) for k = 3 and also show a weak form of the conjecture in item (2). Received November 27, 1996; in final form March 6, 1998     

Haar-like expansions and boundedness of a Riesz operator on a solvable Lie group

Consider the group of affine transformations of the line. Denote by X and Y the right-invariant vector fields corresponding to the s and t directions, respectively, and let We prove that the first-order Riesz operator is of weak type (1, 1) with respect to left Haar measure. This operator is therefore also bounded on . Our results provide answers, in a particular instance, to the open question of the boundedness of Riesz operators on Lie groups of exponential growth. The main parts of the proof concern the behaviour of the kernel of the operator at infinity, and exploit cancellation. A key technique is to use expansion with respect to scales of Haar-like functions. Received March 16, 1998; in final form June 22, 1998     

On the small time behavior of Ornstein–Uhlenbeck processes with unbounded linear drifts

In this paper, we study the small time behavior of Ornstein–Ulenbeck processes with unbounded linear drifts on Hilbert spaces. The large deviations estimates are obtained. The general theory of Dirichlet forms, Lyons–Zheng′s decompositions and the convolution representation of the processes play an important role. A parametric view on the Mangasarian–Fromovitz constraint qualification

The growth of the multipliers, when the parameter approaches such a critical parameter, is characterized by a parametric constraint qualification which is introduced here. Gain of regularity for semilinear Schrödinger equations

We discuss local existence and gain of regularity for semilinear Schr?dinger equations which generally cause loss of derivatives. We prove our results by advanced energy estimates. More precisely, block diagonalization and Doi's transformation, together with symbol smoothing for pseudodifferential operators with nonsmooth coefficients, apply to systems of Schr?dinger-type equations. In particular, the sharp G?rding inequality for pseudodifferential operators whose coefficients are twice continuously differentiable, plays a crucial role in our proof.
